Zirconium Chromium Copper (C18150) is a high-performance copper alloy known for its exceptional combination of electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and thermal stability. It contains small additions of chromium (Cr) and zirconium (Zr), which significantly enhance its hardness and resistance to softening at elevated temperatures. This makes C18150 an ideal choice for demanding electrical and mechanical applications where both strength and conductivity are critical.
The alloy typically offers an electrical conductivity of 80–90% IACS and excellent thermal conductivity of around 320 W/m·K, allowing efficient current flow and heat dissipation. Its tensile strength ranges from 450 to 520 MPa, with good ductility and hardness in the range of 115–150 HB. Even under high temperatures, C18150 retains its strength and shape, providing superior wear and deformation resistance compared to pure copper.
C18150 undergoes solution annealing around 950°C, followed by aging between 450–500°C, which helps in developing a fine precipitation structure that enhances both strength and conductivity. The alloy’s microstructure is stable, ensuring long service life even in continuous heating and cooling cycles.
Due to its unique balance of conductivity, hardness, and high-temperature performance, Zirconium Chromium Copper (C18150) is widely used for resistance welding electrodes and tips, electrical connectors, switchgear components, commutators, rotors, and plastic injection mold parts. It is an excellent material choice wherever high strength and electrical efficiency are simultaneously required.
